Coming home, worn out after a chaotic day, my kitchen becomes an oasis where I escape into a whirl of chopping, sizzling, and stirring. And before you can say speak of the devil and he doth appear, there’s a plate of gorgeous, saucy stir-fry beckoning to your taste buds.
Yup, cooking should be joyous, not a chore. I reckon, if you start with fresh, quality ingredients, you’re already half-way there. And let’s not kid ourselves, with stir-fry, it’s all about the ‘mise en place’, a fancy French term for get your stuff ready. I’m talking about thinly sliced beef, diced peppers, shredded carrots… oh, and those glimmery rice noodles, ready for the wok.
Egads! Let’s not forget the crowning glory: the sauce. Now, I ain’t no gourmet chef, but I’ve spent a good bit of time perfecting this little ditty–a brilliant blend of soy, garlic, ginger, and a good helping of honey for sweetness. It’s the bee’s knees!
Believe me, there’s a massive satisfaction in hearing the murmur of what’s cooking good looking from your loved ones. Cooking up this beef stir-fry with rice noodles, you bet they’ll be asking for seconds, maybe even thirds!
Let’s Make It!
- Gather all your ingredients: pound of beef, cut into thin strips, 8 ounces of rice noodles, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and a carrot, all sliced thin. Don’t forget 2 cloves of garlic, minced, a chunk of fresh ginger, grated, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of honey.
- While you’re assembling everything, go ahead and soak those rice noodles in hot water. You’re aiming for al dente because they’ll soften up more when you toss them in the wok later on.
- Let’s get that sauce in action now. Mix together the soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger in a bowl. Set it aside and let those flavors get cozy with each other.
- Heat up a hearty glug of oil in your wok or large pan, over high heat. When it’s nice and hot, toss in your beef strips. Sear those bad boys till they’re nicely browned. Remove them from the pan and set aside.
- Using the same pan, throw in your thinly sliced veggies. Give ’em a good stir until they’re just tender.
- It’s time! Drain those rice noodles and add them into the wok along with the cooked beef. Pour in that gorgeous sauce you made earlier.
- Mix everything together until it’s all beautifully coated and heated through. You want the noodles and the beef to soak up all that saucy goodness.
- Presto! You’re done. Dish up while it’s piping hot, garnish with some fresh herbs or a sprinkle of sesame seeds, and dig into your heavenly homemade beef stir-fry with rice noodles.
